NC Hauler I think you missed the point. If I paid all that extra money for electrical convenience then I want convenience. I want to be able to stand inside during the night in my shorts and push the button if I need to. If it's pouring down rain I sure don't want to be out taking down lights and feel foolish standing inside, soaking wet, pushing my button of convenience! If I have to go outside and take everything down I might has well put the awning up while out there. Of course I still have to figure out how to keep my stuff hiding under the awning dry. I have a policy, once down the awning stays down--never yet lost one, don't expect I ever will. Why buy a GPS and follow a road map? Why have cruise control and use your foot always on the gas? Why pay for an item of convenience and not use it? I'm not opposed to electric awnings, lots of people have them and love them but for me I prefer manual. I just don't understand paying for convenience and not using it.

I have a triple axle and use a double and a single on each side. My fender also hangs down and does create a small challenge to putting the double on. In fact the fender has tore both doubles. I guess the test is, when I replace will I buy singles or doubles again. Doubles!

I am one that believes the whole purpose of an electric awning is the ease of use. Just push the button. Seems that if you start hanging lights, etc. on them, pull things under to keep dry then you lose the major purpose of the electric. I for one hang lights, sunscreen, etc. from the awning. I also keep chairs, refer, etc. under to keep out of the weather. I have no need for an electric awning and wouldn't find a purpose for one. I pull mine out, put the arms in the patio position, use stakes and straps to tie down and NEVER put up until ready to break camp, including more than 3 months in Florida for the winter. Been doing in since 1971 so I guess it works--for me! May not for you.

I think everyone misses the point on concrete. It is not the concrete itself as much as the drainage issue. Notice every "expert opinion" (read that meaning from chemical engineers, not forum commentators) discusses well drained area. A concrete pad COULD be graded so that water would accumulate around tires, thus putting something between the WATER and the tire, not between the concrete and the tire. Mine sits on loose gravel--never dirt or should I say mud at times--so it drains quite well, thus no barrier under tires.

I've found the smell in the water supply at campgrounds. Using a filter helps. I've also had it in the hot water tank, flush as recommended above. I also sanitize my system by adding 1/4 of bleach per 10 gallons of water in the tank. I drain the tank, add back some fresh water, pour in the bleach, then finish filling the tank. Run through all taps until I get a little bleach odor (can also use this to sanitize the traps). I also drain and fill the hot water tank from this mixture. Let set a while, I like at least over night. Drain and flush. Any remaining bleach would not be enough to hurt anything (should only be a minuscule amount after flushing--if anything). I would never add a cup of bleach to each trap, that would be very corrosive and serve no purpose in that strength.

Actually Ford allows the SRW a few hundred pounds more than the DRW. Basically because of the extra weight of the wheels. Other manufacturers I think rate a little different. I picked the DRW because of what several "old fiver pullers" recommended and that was the DRW for better stability (especially if you lose a tire in the rear). I can't say mines any more stable than a SRW, because I've never pulled a fiver with a SRW, but I'm happy I picked the DRW. And, it fits in my garage with standard doors and standard length just fine.

There is no free lunch. Rewards, rebates, etc. etc. are gimmicks to get you to use their card so they can make money. All I want is a card! No gimmicks, no frills, no rewards, no rebates and no annual fees. You can bet that YOU will end up paying for the gimmicks. We pay it off every month, so could care less about all the rest.

When we moved to our new house in 2003 we did not have a cable option and the antenna was iffy, so we signed up with Dish Network, locals were not available at the time. We requested the distant networks discussed here. We selected the Chicago stations, however, Dish did not grant any waivers etc. We had to request service from each of the stations we wanted. If fact the Chicago CBS affiliate would not grant our request. Since the stations themselves approved, I don't know how Dish could have gotten into trouble?

RE: Safety issue with EZ Lube wheel bearing hubs

I also use the EZ lube as designed. However, I still want a visual inspection of the bearings. One could have a the correct amount of grease but still have a bearing failure. The only way to find that is to visually inspect the bearings.

Just seen your post on the Pilgrim forum. Great job. Been thinking of a hitch for bicycles also. Carry now on the ladder and hate doing that. This might get me going now.

I lift mine by doing what the manufacturers of the axles recommend. They engineer them, build them and should know what their talking about. Those, who are not axle engineers/designers, have their own methods and ideas but as for me I'll follow the instructions of those who are trained to know.

I wash mine myself, in the winter--at the campground (sorry; RESORT?) we stay at--in the summer at home. I've thought about truck washes and was interested in hearing results from folks. So far I've stayed away because of the "stuff" in the back of the truck (didn't want to get everything soaked) and had a concern about high pressure sprays on the unit. Apparently none of you are finding any problems with the high pressure sprays--correct?

I'm not sure how folks are claiming that they reduce the air flow?? They are screens just like the original, just snap in, instead of having all of those screws. I think they may be thinking of the ones with the foam filter that is attached to the fan--that would definitely reduce airflow. The one's that replace the original screen do not affect air flow any more or less than originals. I bought a set this year and am very happy with them. Again the ONLY difference is the 625 screws are missing from the replacement set--much easier to remove and clean.

RE: new flooring- thoughts?

Do some searching, you'll find several threads with pictures. There are some who have really done some good work with Pergo type floors and have shared with the rest. I do wish all of you would quit it though, my wife keeps talking about it and so far I haven't told her about the threads here. I told her I didn't think it was possible. Thankfully, she's not a computer person.

If you connect the converter at the "power port" then all TV's (assuming you have more than one) will have to watch the same channel. While it's possible to isolate the lead going to the TV in question your best bet is to connect the converter at the TV. It may perhaps be hard to move the TV to get behind it but this is still the best bet. Also in our former TT the "power port" was behind the main TV so I would still have had to move the TV. If, in our fiver, we put the converter at the "power port" we would have to get up and go into the bedroom to change channels. Move the TV and hook it the way it should be and you'll be a lot happier in the end.

Sorry to inform you OpenRoadies but Pilgrim is not in business. They shut down operations in August of last year and declared bankruptcy in late September (or possibly early October). We were in Middlebury just before they declared bankruptcy. Both plants were shutdown. The U.S. 20 plant already had weeds growing in the parking lot, even though some people were there hauling stuff out. However, according to info on the Pilgrim forum site there has been some activity at the U.S. 20 plant.

The "code" is no secret and very easy to decipher. I have always checked the date of manufacture of tires I have bought. Buyer beware. Again folks passing their responsibilities off to government.

Wow, after reading all of this I'm afraid I've just been making a molehill out of a mountain all of this time. Here I doing it simple when I was suppose to be doing it complex. Pull pins, let each leg fall to ground (or 2X if wanted); push each leg up until pins engage; raise off of truck. Hmmmm guess I'm just too simple minded. Must be government involved here somewhere.

I don't have a F-250 but a F-350 dually with the V-10. I get (all things being equal--no wind, hills, etc.) about 8 towing. The truck gets around 10 mpg in town (although it's not designed to run empty "around town") and in the 12's on the highway, empty. My fiver, fully loaded, weighs about 15,500 so I needed the 4:30 rear end. It took me about 6 months to decide between a diesel or gasser, I finally decided on the gasser--best decision I could have made.
